[Event "Winterthur - Réti"] [Site "?"] [Date "2018.09.08"] [Round "?"] [White "Harikrishna, Pentala"] [Black "Stojanovic, Mihajlo"] [Result "*"] [ECO "A07"] [Annotator "Mihajlo Stojanovic"] [PlyCount "98"] [EventDate "2018.??.??"] [Source "ChessBase"] {Harikrishna and me already played once in 2009. That game was drawn although he was a clear favourite. In meantime Harikrishna married my closest cousin (she played good chess in her youth) so perhaps somewhere back in his mind he was not seriously willing to «smash» me in this encounter. I was naturally ready to lose but hoping for decent resistance, in order that colleagues from our team do not see 1:0 in the opponent favour too quickly.} 1. Nf3 d5 2. g3 Nf6 3. Bg2 c6 4. O-O Bg4 5. h3 Bh5 {After thinking several minutes, I was going to capture on f3. Then somehow remembered that 5… Lxf3 6. exf3 followed by f4 gives promising position to White and took the hand back.} 6. d4 Nbd7 7. c4 e6 ({No good is} 7... dxc4 8. Na3 b5 9. Ne5 Nxe5 10. dxe5 Nd5 11. Nxb5) 8. cxd5 cxd5 9. Nc3 Be7 10. Qb3 Bxf3 (10... Nb6 11. g4 Bg6 12. Ne5 { looked very dangerous to me}) ({If} 10... Qb6 {I was afraid that Ne5 will come soon} 11. Ne5) 11. Bxf3 Qb6 {Until this dubious move (which was out of my understanding) Harikrishna played very quickly. I learned after the game, with the engine, that 11… Sb6 gives to Black decent position.} 12. e4 $1 { Unpleasant surprise. It is not any more possible to keep the position closed.} dxe4 13. Nxe4 Qxb3 14. axb3 Nd5 {Blocking diagonal h1-a8.} 15. Nc3 N7b6 16. Re1 ({White could take pawn with} 16. Nxd5 Nxd5 17. Bxd5 exd5 18. Ra5 {but it is not clear how to make further progress. For example} a6 19. Rxd5 Rd8 20. Rxd8+ Kxd8 {with Kd7 and perhaps there is no way to break through}) 16... a6 17. Bd2 {Definitely not best.} ({I was afraid of} 17. Nxd5 Nxd5 18. Bxd5 exd5 19. Bd2 { but perhaps he understood that} Kd7 20. Re5 f6 21. Rxd5+ Ke6 {gives chance to survive. Still this looks like an optimal try…probably Harikrishna forgot that my next move is possible.}) 17... O-O-O {Now everything is covered. Feeling in the game was that somewhere around here my opponent «lost head» a bit; which means started to play not really careful and objective. It is no good independent how strong player one is.} 18. Ne4 Bb4 19. Rec1+ (19. Bxb4 Nxb4 20. Nc5 N6d5 21. Rec1 Kb8 $11 {is kind of the position where both players are all right}) 19... Kb8 20. Bc3 Rd7 {White’s trouble is that Black’s improvement moves come relative easily until he has to wait.} 21. Rc2 Rc8 22. Nc5 Rdc7 ({Pawn can not be taken with} 22... Bxc5 23. dxc5 Rxc5 $2 24. Be5+) 23. Bxb4 Nxb4 24. Rd2 Rd8 25. Rad1 N6d5 {Harikrishna must be dissapointed here with his pawn structure.} 26. h4 b6 27. Ne4 h6 {Prevents Sg5 in case.} 28. Re2 Nc2 ({Stronger} 28... Na2 {with threat Sc1 did not come on my mind at all}) 29. Kg2 $2 {This loses pawn.} ({Staying in not nice but optimal position was better:} 29. Red2 {because if} Ndb4 $2 (29... Ncb4 {holds advantage}) 30. Nc3 { equalizes with the idea d5 or just Se2}) 29... Ndb4 30. Nc3 (30. Red2 Rcd7) 30... Nxd4 ({Mistake is} 30... Rxd4 31. Rc1 {and Txc2}) 31. Red2 e5 32. Be4 b5 {Space for the king.} 33. f4 f6 34. fxe5 fxe5 35. Ne2 Rcd7 36. Ng1 { Unfortunately for Harikrishna, Sf3 can not come in time.} Kc7 37. Rc1+ Kb6 38. Rcd1 Kc7 {Repeating the moves for reaching the time control was big relief to me.} 39. Rc1+ Kb6 40. Rcd1 Nd5 41. Rd3 (41. Bxd5 Rxd5 42. Nf3 Kc5 {with Sf3/ Sb3 or if} 43. Rc1+ Kb4 {wins}) 41... Nf6 42. Re1 (42. Bf3 Nxb3) 42... Nc2 43. Re2 Rxd3 44. Bxd3 Rxd3 45. Rxc2 Rxb3 46. Nf3 Ng4 {White could not resign here in respect to the team mates.} 47. Re2 a5 48. h5 (48. Nxe5 Nxe5 49. Rxe5 Rxb2+ {followed by a4}) 48... a4 49. Rd2 Ne3+ (49... Ne3+ 50. Kf2 Nc4) 0-1
